Earthdog Seminar for Handlers and Judges

Closing Date

Talking Cedar
Grand Mound, WA

Puget Sound Earthdog Club is proud to host an AKC Earthdog Seminar for Judges & Handlers on , at the Talking Cedar in Grand Mound, WA. The seminar will provide a detailed review and explanation of the regulations and guidelines for Earthdog tests so that participants have a better understanding of all performance requirements and standards. These seminars are few and far between, so you won't want to miss this one. The seminar will be followed by two days of Earthdog tests nearby at the Lake residence in Rochester, WA.

This seminar is very useful for people fairly new to Earthdog who want to learn more about the tests as well as those who are thinking about becoming an Earthdog judge. And of course, it is great for those of us longtime Earthdoggers as a refresher on the rules.

The seminar will be presented by Jo Ann Frier-Murza, the AKC Field Representative for Earthdog. Jo Ann has been active in Terrier and Dachshund den trials since 1972. In 1993 she worked with AKC to establish the sport of Earthdog and has hosted and judged numerous tests. She authored the book Earthdog Ins & Outs, 2nd Ed.

This seminar is a classroom presentation and discussion followed optionally by the judge’s test. Anyone who attends the seminar can take the test; there is no additional charge.

A buffet lunch, coffee, and water will be provided. Free parking at the seminar site is available.

We will not be working any dogs at the seminar. There will be a Friday evening Earthdog practice at our nearby Earthdog test site less than 10 minutes away as well as two days of Earthdog tests to follow.

There is limited space, so enter early.

Board and General Meetings

A brief club Board Meeting and General Meeting will be held after the conclusion of judging on Saturday, May 18, 2024. All are welcome.

Novice Earthdog

Note that at these tests we are offering the Novice Earthdog class. NE is very similar to IQ (10-foot, one-turn tunnel), except that neither the judge nor the handler may help the dog after the release. Novice Earthdog is a titling class: two passes under two different judges earns a NE title.

At our tests, dogs who have not yet earned an Earthdog title may be entered in any combination of IQ, NE, and/or JE.

Overnight camping and RV/trailer parking are available, RSVP required. Please note that there are no hookups. Details to follow.

Pre-test Practice

As usual, we will be offering an open practice session on Friday afternoon before the tests. Stay tuned for details.
